The alternative Team GB part 1

So we know HP will lead team GB to glory or failure. We all know it is therefore a closed shop on who will be selected for the Olympic squad. The so called golden generation will have a last bite of the cake So I will present here an alternative squad who I think will be good enough to win a medal at the games.

I have split the players in 4 different categories : the definite for the final 18, those in competition for a place the final 18, those who are back-ups and those who are last resort options if anyone else has failed to turn up.

The definite who are unquestionable :

GK : None

DF :

Alex Scott has everything you want from your right back.

Jennifer Beattie with such a small number of players per squad 18, you cover the 8 out of 10 outfields position with her.

Claire Rafferty she has no real competition as Meg Sargeant and Alex Greenwood are too young to compete with her

Anita Asante she has class written all over her name and she can also play as a defensive midfield.

MF :

Jill Scott has been performing for club and country at the highest level for the last two seasons.

Katie Chapman you won’t find any better British defensive midfield than her around

Kim Little you won’t find any better British attacking midfield than her around.

FW :

Ellen White has been consistently scoring goals and can play either up front or on the wing

2001-02 Arsenal goes through the group stage, and is eliminated in the quarter final to Toulouse 1-1 at Borehamwood and 1-2 at the 7 deniers.

2002-03 Arsenal goes through the group stage, win the quarter-final tie against Samara and is eliminated in the semi-final by Fortuna Hjorring loosing 3-1 away and 5-1 at home.

2003-04 Fulham goes through the second qualifying round and is eliminated in the quarter-final by Frankfurt loosing 3-1 away and 4-1 at home

2004-05 Arsenal goes through the second qualifying round, beat Torres in the quarter final and is eliminated in the semi-final by Djurgarden 1-1 away and 0-1 at home.

2005-06 Arsenal goes through the second qualifying round and is eliminated in the quarter-final by Frankfurt drawing 1-1 at home and loosing 3-1 away

2006-07 Arsenal win the tournament by beating Umea in the final 1-0 away and 0-0 at home. They beat Brondby, Rossiyanka, Femina in the second qualifying round, Breidablik in the quarter final and Brondby again in the semi-final. 2009-10 Arsenal beat Paok Saloniki, Sparat Praha and is eliminated by Duisburg in the quarter-final. Loosing 2-1 Away and 2-0 at home. Everton goes through the qualifying round and is eliminated in the round of 32 by Roa loosing 3-0 away and winning 2-0 at home

2010-11 Arsenal beatMasinac Nis, rayo Vallecano and Linkopings is eliminated by Lyon in the semi-final. Loosing 2-0 Away and 3-2 at home. Everton goes through the qualifying round beat MTK and Brodnby and is eliminated in the quarter-final by Duisburg loosing 3-1 at home and 2-1 away.

Women Premier League 2011/12

Day 4 is next Sunday and we have a serious gap already between top and bottom. Obviously with 18 games rather than a mere 14 last season, it will be at least a proper contest. Last season winner Sunderland deserved to win it by a mile but with so few games last season it was absolutely ridiculous to think that 6 out of the 8 teams could have been relegated with 3 games to go.

The games this week-end :

Barnet v Reading. Barnet looking to get their first win under their belt while Reading will try to consolidate their top hal of the table position.

Charlton v Aston Villa Charlton is one of the form team so far while Villa has shown promise and faith in their numerous quality youngsters.

Coventry v Sunderland Two very solid teams trying to play attacking football.

Nottingham Forrest v Leeds Forrest still looking to win their first game while Leeds has started the season well. Probably a very physical encounter as with every game with Forrest.

Watford v Cardiff Watford having an abysmal start of the season despite having some quality players, they need to kick-start their season before it is too late and they are dragged into the relegation battle early.

Let’s have a look at what I had predicted in December lol

8. Liverpool 7-10 points BINGO

7. Bristol 8-12 points WRONG underestimated them badly

6. Doncaster 12-20 points WRONG they scored less than the minimum expected

5. Lincoln 14-25 points WRONG they scored 21 points and finished 4th

4. Chelsea 20-30 points WRONG they totally collapsed in the 2nd half of the season

3. Birmingham 25-38 WRONG points they scored 29 and finished second

2. Everton 26-36 points WRONG they scored 25 due to their poor first half of the season

1. Arsenal 28-37 points BINGO

So I only got the top and bottom teams right lol quite a poor prediction !

France women’s football ep 1

The French League has started last week-end and the European Champions are already in the lead after their 10-0 away win at Vendenheim. Trailing behind are Juvisy who defeated Soyaux 5-0 Guingamp who beat Muret 2-1 and Montpellier who defeated Rodez 1-0. Hénin-Beaumont and Yzeure drew 1-1. St-Etienne PSG was postponed due to the Universiade in Shenzen.

In the Division 1 one a win is awarded 4 points a draw 2 points a defeat 1 point and 0 point for pulling out of a game.

In the transfer news, OL just signed last season’s top goalcorer from Juvisy Laetitia Tonazzi.

The national team will start the Euro 2013 qualifiers in Israel on the 14th before playing away to Ireland in Cork on the 22nd. The coach Bruno Bini has selected an 18 players squad composed exclusively of World Cup players except for the back-up goalkeeper Benameur. The only World Cup players who are missing are Sapowicz , Phillipe and Brétigny who are injured and Pizzala who is dropped and was a fringe player at the World Cup. Amandine Henry and Sarah Bouhaddi are not selected, same reason as for their non slection for the World Cup incompatibility with other players.

After the qualification round, we know now the 32 teams qualified for the round of 32.

The 16 seeded teams are Lyon, Arsenal, Potsdam, Frankfurt, Rossiyanka, Brondby, Torres, Neulengbach, Hjorring, Praha, Valur, Malmo, Goteborg, PSG, Voronezh, Vallecano.

They will be drawn against the non seeded teams Bristol, Tavagnacco, Liege, Stabaek, CSHVSM,Thor/KA,Twente, Glasgow, Apollon, Bobruichanka, Vantaa, Young Boys, Tel Aviv, Osijek and Peamount

Women’s Champions League qualifying round

Qualifying round
The 32 lower-ranked champion clubs compete in eight four-team, one-venue mini-tournaments hosted by one of the competitors. The top team from each group progresses along with the two best runners-up.

Some heavy results with the likes of 14-0, 12-0 or 10-0. We will know by Tuesday the 16th which 10 teams are qualified and join the 22 teams who were given a bye to the round of 32.

As a reminder Bristol Academy have a strong interest in group 3. Should Rayo Vallecano qualify for the round of 32, the Spanish team will the 16th ranked team and therefeore seeded while Bristol would then drop to 17th team and be unseeded. Potential opponents would be Olympique Lyonnais the holders, Turbine Potsdam runners-up last season and winner the season before, 1. FFC Frankfurt, Rossiyanka or Brondby.

Round 13 preview

A very interesting statistic is the teams’ form since the return of the FA WSL :

Lincoln WDLW 7 points

Bristol LLWW 6 points

Liverpool LLDW 4 points

Chelsea LLWL 3 points

Doncaster LLDL 1 point

Bristol v Everton should be a fascinating encounter as Bristol are on the up with 2 wins in a row and will try to upset Everton like Lincoln did. Everton need a win to keep the Champions place race alive.

Lincoln v Liverpool will be live on ESPN and with both side having won away and upset big teams it promised to be an entertaining contest.

Birmingham v Chelsea with Birmingham needing the 3 points to nearly make sure of qualifying for the Champions League. A win would put them out of reach of Everton except if Everton could catch up a 12 goals differential in the next 3 games.

Arsenal v Doncaster Arsenal will need the 3 points to keep their title challenge going and with Doncaster’s poor form a home win is the likeliest result.
